Benefit Barbecue for Community Warehouse May 19-20

One of the wonderful organizations we learned about on our last Master Recycler class field trip was Community Warehouse. Community Warehouse is a non-profit that accepts donated household furniture and goods (such as linens, plates, cookware, etc.). They work with social service agencies and will provide a referred low-income family with everything they need to set up their household -- free of charge. Their clients typically include women escaping domestic violence, families who have been homeless, migrants and refugees, the elderly, and people with physical and mental disabilities. These folks sometimes can't afford thrift-store prices for even the basics. One of the really cool things about Community Warehouse is that all of the stuff you donate stays local (you can't ensure that about what you donate to some of the bigger thrift stores like Goodwill). And do note a key difference: Goodwill and other thrifts are selling your old stuff. Community Warehouse is giving it away to families who are in great need.

Anyway, that's the background. Do you think you'll be hungry for some barbecue this weekend? Well, you're in luck. New Seasons is hosting a benefit barbecue for Community Warehouse. Six bucks will get you a Hebrew National hot dog or veggie dog on a New Seasons bun, served with a bag of chips, pickle, a brownie and a beverage. Yummy! It's from 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20 at all New Seasons locations. Master Recyclers will be there too - so come on out for some good eatin' and meetin' of some cool hard-working Master Recycler volunteers.
