Citronella bracelets: do they keep bugs away?

Camping is on my mind again... I was wondering if anyone has tried those citronella bracelets that are supposed to keep biting bugs away? One of my daughters would not stand to have bug spray applied last year when we camped, and came home with so many bug bites she looked like she had the measles or pox or something dire. I'd love to find a way to keep the bugs away from her without spraying her down.

Any other suggestions? We tried these buzzy things that send out a high pitch that is supposed to keeps the skeets away, but I found that they really didn't work in the deep woods (maybe they only work on city bugs?). Please share if you have any suggestions for keeping bugs away without bug spray! Thanks!
