I heart Sigg
After years of drinking out of a Nalgene water bottle, I finally decided to get Sigg bottles for me and the kids (sorry hub, you gotta kick that diet 7-Up habit before you get one). With all this talk about plastic bottles leaching bisphenol-A and other carcinogens, I figured it was time to part with some green in the interest of health. The bottles are made with aluminum and are super lightweight. The resin coating on the inside is guaranteed to be non-leaching and prevents bacteria from forming. They won't crack or break, and you can recycle them at the end of their life cycle (though I can't imagine when that would be).
It was money well spent. There is something about drinking water out of a Sigg bottle that is enormously pleasurable. The slim size fits comfortably in my hand. The opening is just the right size for my mouth and I don't have to worry about spillage from overzealous drinking. The water stays cooler. The bottle doesn't sweat. I love hooking my finger through the little handle in the lid when I need to carry it. And it's so pretty.
The kids seem to feel the same way. Getting them to drink water in the past has never been an easy feat. But they got to pick out their own color, which has given them a sense of pride and propriety. Now they don't like to leave home without their Siggs, and they drink from them constantly. They each got the short 10 oz size (about $16 each), which fits perfectly in a lunch box. My daughter picked one with a pop-up nozzle, while my son liked the open screw-top version. It is truly one of the best investments I've ever made.
