No more wire hangers!

KK has an abundance of wire hangers. Here's the scoop:

Any ideas of what to do with a bunch of wire coat hangers?  I'm at the very last stage of pregnancy, where none of my clothes fit anymore and I've got about 5 things hanging in my closet, so I'm using this as an opportunity to donate or repurpose clothes I didn't wear anymore anyway.  But now I've got a ridiculous amount of hangers left over, and I'd rather just have the plastic ones (bought second hand of course!) I can't seem to find any info on recycling them, and I hate to donate them along with the clothes because I doubt they'll get bought and will probably just end up in the landfill that way.   I've found some crafty ideas for using them, but honestly, I can only make one pair of fairy wings and then I've got about 99 coat hangers left over.  Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

Here's what I was thinking. If they are the kind of wire hangers you get from a dry cleaner, why don't you see if the dry cleaners in your area will take them back and reuse them? It's always better to try to reuse first vs. recycle. If you have no luck with the cleaners, you could also try posting them on craigslist.org or freecycle.org as I'll bet there is someone out there who could use them for a rummage sale or to stock a thrift store. Worst case, they can probably be recycled -- scrap metal is a hot recycling market right now, at least where we live in Portland. I don't believe you mentioned where you live, so find out if you can recycle them as a last resort.

Do you have any other ideas for KK on what to do with her wire hangers?
