Bamboo underwear, imaginary Pandas and momnesia

I was starting to fear there was a small, elusive, bamboo-eating Panda bear living in our house. Because I could think of no other reasonable explanation for why my new bamboo underwear would be missing. Are there other animals that eat bamboo? I didn't think so. So why then, was the bamboo underwear no where to be found?

The mystery was solved over the weekend. My husband found a pile of socks and underwear that had been dried in the dryer several weeks ago. I had totally forgotten about the clothesline socks and underwear exclusion. Weeks ago, when I folded all the stuff from the clothesline, I completely forgot about the pile of socks and underwear in the dryer. Oops. The simplest explanation was momnesia, which allows me to forget worrying about that elusive panda bear.

Bamboo Regarding the bamboo underwear. When I first met bamboo as a clothing fabric, it was a t-shirt. It was surprisingly soft. Hard to reconcile one's idea of bamboo -- those invasive, fast-growing canes -- with the softness of the fabric under my fingers. But I just couldn't bring myself to buy a t-shirt. I think I have enough t-shirts to last a lifetime (unless of course we ever get off our duffs and design an EnviroMom t-shirt -- then I will have one, and you will too, and you, and you and you....). A few other things about bamboo that I found compelling: it's naturally anti-microbial, grows without any need for pesticides and fertilizers, and it wicks moisture. If you think like me, your natural conclusion would be: could there be a more ideal fiber for socks and undies? As much as I strive to buy second-hand clothing, I think me and most everyone else would be hard pressed to buy used socks and underwear.

Finding bamboo underwear was a bit trickier than I expected. There's a bunch of web stores that sell bamboo clothing and what they call "bamboo intimates" but mostly I found jog bras and yoga pants. Ultimately, I did find some bamboo underwear, and I've been very pleased with them. As my stockpile of old cotton panties make their way to the rag bag, I will replace them with bamboo. Socks will be my next bamboo purchase.

Is there any bamboo clothing in your armoire? Do you like it as much as I do?
