FDA says bisphenol A is safe...are you buying it?

So the FDA did a study and found that "trace amounts of bisphenol A that leach out of food containers are not a threat to infants or adults." They acknowledge that more research needs to be conducted on its effects on humans. But other studies, funded by the National Institute of Health, have found that small amounts of the chemical can have adverse effects on the brain and behavior in animals, and there is concern that fetuses, babies and children are also at risk. So what do you believe?

I'm no scientist (but I play one on TV) but I'm not ready to put all of my faith into the FDA's results. I wonder whether they truly have our interests in mind, or are they trying to appease the plastics industry or the American Chemistry Council or the big oilmen running our country who no doubt want to see more plastic in our lives (because oil is getting a bad rap these days and god forbid we actually start using less of it). I have no proof, just a conspiracy theory based on bad current administration faith. Geez, I'm starting to sound like Mulder.

Anyhoo, I'm not about to ditch my Sigg in favor of Nalgene. I certainly haven't eliminated plastic from my family's life, but I try not buy more and I'm a bit more careful how I use it. What about you? How is your plastic consumption these days? Do these recent findings alter your feelings about the safety of plastic?
