A simple, local Easter
In typical fashion, I did not plan for Easter. Easter always sneaks up on me, perhaps because it's a simple and quiet holiday around our house with a focus on springtime and bunnies. I think, however, I'm just spoiled by the fact that I can zip out the day before to a handful of locally-owned stores within five minutes of home and have everything I need. So once again I waited and did just that. The toy, book and candy stores in a neighborhood village supplied goodies for the baskets. My grocery co-op provided all the brunch fixings (welcome back, asparagus!) and our neighborhood bakery had the perfect, not-too-sweet rhubarb-ginger breakfast buckle that saved me from an afternoon of cursing.
Decorations were kept to a minimum: a tiny bundle of color from the yard, and a next of eggs watched over by a family of birds. My great-grandmother's china always makes me happy (how did a Montana homesteader have such beautiful Haviland china?) as does our one set of stain-free cloth napkins, reserved for special occasions. They may be wrinkled, but at least they are clean! The tablecloth -- a scrap remnant left over from an upholstery project. Done. Mimosa, anyone?
