Recent green reads and ANOTHER GIVE-AWAY!
Two books have come my way recently, both of which have helped my family continue down the sometimes rocky road to a more sustainable lifestyle. And BONUS! We're giving both away! Two give-aways in two weeks? Crazy! So check it out:
The kids have been enjoying Michael Recycle Meets Litterbug Doug, a rhyming tale about a slothful youth who changes his wasteful ways under the influence of a super-green hero. This one is a particular hit with my 4-year old who is just now becoming more aware of the three R's and espousing their importance. The end of the book is full of trash facts and action items -- things many of you are probably doing already. But it never hurts to keep talking about these things with our kids and reminding them (and ourselves) about why we're trying to keep our planet healthy and beautiful.
The second book, True Green Kids: 100 Things you can do to Save the Planet, is geared more toward tweens and teens, but I enjoyed reading this one! It's organized in bite-sized chunks in chapters like 'Buying Stuff,' 'Outdoors' and 'At School' with full-color photos. Short on text but high on motivation, each tip includes an action item directing the reader to a Web site for more info or a suggestion of how to implement the idea. My 7-year just spied this book recently (hiding on my nightstand) and now tells me to 'put my computer to sleep' when I walk away...a reminder I need constantly.
So if you'd like to enter this give-away, just leave a comment (and make sure to include your email address) by Sunday, May 3 at 9am Pacific time, and we'll announce the winner that day. Thanks for playing!
UPDATE: Woo hoo! We have a winner! Congrats to lucky number 13...our 13th comment was left by Brandy. Way to go, Brandy, you won the books!
