Family reunion. An annual summertime event. Three elementary school aged girls. Two teenagers. One EnviroMom and one EnviroDad, all sharing one bathroom. Last year? The washing of towels was a non-stop endeavor. Hand towels. Washcloths. Bath towels. Beach towels. This year, with a little pre-planning the washing of towels has been whittled down to a minimum. Hey -- if the better hotels can ask you to hang your towels and use them repeatedly, then so can we. But it wasn't so much the issue of reusing, as keeping track of whose towel was whose. When the (ahem) children typically just toss them on the floor when finished.
Enter an easy fix. Each person was issued one large white bath towel, marked with a colored ribbon and safety pin of their own choosing. The bath towel does double duty as a hand towel. No sharing of germs and an avoidance of the
dreaded disposable bathroom hand towels. Given the briskness of Seattle summers, the beach towels haven't been an issue thus far.
Less time washing towels = more time for family fun. Easy peasy.
