It's the summer of Outdoor Kids! (really...)

Outdoor-kids
It is our first day of summer break. Last week it all looked so promising. The sun came out for the first time in what seemed like decades. My husband took Friday off, and right after school, we picked up the kids, changed into grubby clothes and went out strawberry picking. It was glorious! My youngest said something along the lines of: 'This feels like June is finally summer actually for real.' Couldn't have said it better myself. Over the weekend, the shiny happy trend continued. We put on sunscreen for the first time and went to a parade. Oh, those greasy, white-smeared clown faces of summer using healthier sunscreens. We've missed the clown faces!

Fast forward to now. It's cold and gray. We are on the verge of having the wettest June ever. And coldest! My freaking furnace kicked on this morning. Instead of strawberry smoothies, we just might be whipping up some hot cocoa. Argh.

Regardless, I will not be deterred in my plans to get the kids outdoors for much of the summer. It will be the summer of Outdoor Kids! Sure, we may need our parkas, but we are Oregonians. It is what we do (when we are not feeling like wusses).

What are your favorite outdoor kid friendly activities? How do you plan to spend the summer?
