If our solar panels could talk, they might be saying: 'I think I can! I think I can!' Remember the book 'The Little Engine That Could'? Recently, I've had a few friends ask how it's going with the solar: 'Hmm. Well, I've been meaning to crunch those numbers. I'll get back to you on that. OK?'
So I looked at our electric bills of the past six months. Our photovoltaic solar system came online right at the beginning of September. I compared those bills to the bills from the same months (September to February of last year). And… survey says: 'Can we talk next summer?'
No, here's what I really found out. Some months are about the same. Some are drastically lower. Others are inexplicably more! During the past six months, we were billed for a total of 2493 kWh. In the same period a year ago, we were billed for 2692 kWh. So it's down overall! But not by much. In price, it's pretty much the same story. Our cumulative bill is $16.76 less than for the same six-month period last year. Not a really sunny picture (sorry, pun intended).
Thus, I return to my previous comment. I'll give you another update on the solar system in summer. We are hoping for a real summer this year. With sun. And warmth, and tomatoes and stuff. Stay tuned!
