What are your "sacred cows"?

Our GreenGroup met today, and in one of many tangential conversations, we talked briefly about our "sacred cows": luxuries we'd not willingly part with, even if we were down to our last collective gallon of gasoline. Well, maybe not that extreme, but hopefully you get the idea. (Let me note that this post is mostly for fun since we greenfolk are sometimes accused of being a little too serious much of the time).

For me, I don't think I could give up hair color. My hair started turning gray, well, white, when I was 16. It's almost pure white now. I end up coloring it every 4 weeks. And I know it's just a vanity thing, but I really feel so much better when I'm not sportin' a white roots skunk strip down the middle of my head. I also don't think I could give up the razor. I often feel I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place: which is worse? the disposable shower razor or the rechargeable electric razor? In any case, I'm still using both on a regular basis, and I don't think I'll give up either any time soon. I also have a soft spot for fizzy water. But, I will give that up, one of these days. At least I don't insist on Pellegrino or fancy imported fizzy water. Does that seem like a fair rationalization?

For my kids, they love those moist, flushable wipes. I wish I could break them of that habit. But I've almost given up trying.

So, what about you? Just for fun, what are your sacred cows? Are there any things you'd refuse to give up even for the good of mama earth, in the name of sustainable living, even as all the oil wells run dry?
